I know where I’m from..PA…to be approved for disability (not ssi) you have to have so much in taxes paid (held a job for so many years) not sure the numbers…because I have a kidney and ovary disease and my doctor put me on temp. disability(well it’s always supposed to be temp. unless it’s a uncurable condition, but everyone abuses the system) but I couldn’t get disabilty because I didn’t qualify…well good luck. it’s a long process.

Well ssd is when you are eligable for medicare,so if you need medical attention your bill could be 100,000 and you may have to pay like 18 dollars, try for ssd not ssi, cause ssi your not eligiable for medicare.

One Response to Ssi or Ssdi?

Google: Dept of labor Idaho. It was recognized for the way it processed SSD claims.

SSDI is a Federal Program which you are eligible for if you have a disability that severely affects your daily functioning so that you can’ t work. You also have to had contributed a minimum # of quarters into FICA.

In NYC, it takes about 2 years to get it, if you get accepted the 1st go round. Often people are denied the 1st time and need to reapply.

Once you get SSDI you are eligible for Medicare. You receive part A for free (Inpt care) and pay a monthly premium for Part B (for outpt. treatment). They have a terrible new drug program called Part D. Part D has a separate premium.

If you don’t have enough work quarters & are disabled you can apply for SSI. This can take a long time also, so apply for immediate Medicaid separately, rather than wait for the SSI to come thru.

    Hope that’s clear.
